EHSS Subject Selection Guide – 2023

Applications for the 2023 intake will be open from 11th July to 31st August 2022 for eligible year 9-11 students.

Intake:
1 class of up to 14 year 10, 11 or 12 students each year.

Course Overview:

Open to Year 11 and 12 students. Run one day per week for 12 months. Year 10’s wishing to pursue an ATAR pathway in senior schooling may also apply, after discussion with their senior schooling coordinator.

Students learn foundation skills associated with the health and support services industry.

The program is run by Bluestone Medical from a simulated Health Hub, located in the Trade Skills Centre at the Gladstone State High School.

Students learn foundation skills of the health sector – including hygiene, disease prevention, confidentiality, customer service and first aid. The room is fitted out with hospital beds,
mannequins, models, simulated equipment, medical books and materials.

 

Course Duration:
1 year.

 

Pathway:
Employment or further study in the Health Support Services Sector.

 

Possible Occupations include:

Aged Care Worker, Caretaker, Hospital Ward Assistant, Dental Assistant or work in the Community Services sector.
May also assist with foundation knowledge for a career as a Nurse, Paediatrician, Veterinary Nurse or other Health provider, as well as Child Care and professional cleaning services.
