EQIP Business, Industry and Tourism Skills Centre

The EQIP Business, Industry and Tourism Skills Centre (EBITS) is located on-site at Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL), offering pathways to Business or  Tourism. Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 are provided with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional business environment while completing Vocational Education Training (VET) qualifications.  The program is based in the BSL professional office suites, allowing access to BSL staff, work experience and project support.  Being part of EBITS in an authentic work environment helps students to develop confidence, teamwork, problem solving, communication and leadership skills.  This makes the transition into the workforce or a tertiary pathway much smoother.

Year 10 Program – Business

The Year 10 program runs 1 day per week during school term throughout year. This is aimed at those students who enjoy working in a team environment and would like the opportunity to get a feel for the EBITS program. Year 10 students plan and carry out a community or industry based event and complete a Certificate I in Business.

Career preparation and guidance workshops are included in the program for Year 10 students. This program helps to build personal brand and prepares students for recruitment, future employers and the workforce in general.

Year 10 students have the option of transitioning to the Year 11 Program.

Year 11 and Year 12 – Business or Tourism

The Year 11 and Year 12 programs run 1 day per week and are suited to students who want to combine subjects at school with qualifications that can help lead toward a pathway in tertiary studies or employment.  Students are involved in industry enterprise projects, complete work experience aligned to their chosen career pathway and are actively involved in the community.

Year 11 students have the option of transitioning to the Year 12 Program.

The EBITS Centre is an office with a reception area, training rooms, conference room, meeting room and kitchen.  While at the EBITS Centre, students are required to answer the telephone, greet visitors, maintain a clean and safe working environment and undertake tasks for clients in addition to their school work.  This approach fosters business work experience in an authentic office environment.
